Rising Dragon Martial Arts School® in China has been formed to teach the very best of Martial Arts. It is founded on the simple principle of having the very best world class Kung Fu Masters in the best setting for the teaching and practice of Chinese Martial Arts. It took over a year to prepare the School for both Masters and pupils and has rapidly been recognised as one of the leading residential martial arts schools in China that all others aspire to! We are able to teach and accommodate people of all backgrounds whether experienced or total beginners. We do have a medical Questionnaire to Complete but we are able to accommodate those with some conditions dependent upon the severity of these conditions and of course if and only if our teachings will be of genuine benefit. We can accept all age groups but those 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Set at 1700m altitude on the foothills of the Himalayas inside a Buddhist Monastery totally in harmony with its wonderful natural settings and the daily smiles of friendly Buddhist Monks, its tranquil setting is spiritually calming and up lifting. The location of our Rising Dragon School is perfect for the practice of martial arts in China.

The land is known as Tiger land in the art of Feng Shui. Tiger land mixing with our Dragon name provides the perfect location for Martial Arts and in its unsurpassed area of natural beauty means that few other schools could match this superb balance. Harmony is the key to all things. Deep into the mountains of rural Fujian PR, South China a large plot of land left for ruins was discovered by Scott Bird during the May holiday of 2006. Although in a very bad condition, Bird knew there was potential and so had several meetings with the local government who were very supportive of his idea for a residential martial arts school and so work began that summer.

We are one of the most promising Kung fu schools in China today and thee place for westerners to learn kung fu or Chinese martial arts in China so if you are serious about learning kung fu in China, traditional Chinese Martial Arts from Tai chi to Shaolin Quan then you have found the number one martial arts school in China for your practice!

 

One of our aims is to produce a total environment where culture, class, race or creed are left outside and you will become part of a caring, friendly community. All members of that community must agree to dedicate themselves to their learning and to each other. Having completed your training in martial arts you will leave our school with much more than knowledge of the Art you have practiced. You will have acquired a far greater understanding of yourself and an inner peace that will give you an enhanced self-worth and appreciation of the world and others.

 

Working by himself without translators or any help it took Scott nearly a year to get RDS liveable and ready for students to start training and it wasn't long before the very first student, John King arrived at Rising Dragon School for Shaolin training. During the first year of opening RDS received nearly 100 short-term students making Rising Dragon successful from day 1. Since opening in October 2007 we have had over 1000 students from all over the world attend Rising Dragon School, in 2010 we performed on live TV with the international super star Jackie Chan, our students and owner Scott Bird have walked away from International Tournaments with dozens of medals, we was made an official training base for Sun Style martial arts and we have struck up a great relationship with The Song Shan Shaolin Temple and warrior monk training base who have sent us some of their best martial monks to teach for us.

 

Location

 

Yunnan or 'South of the Clouds' is a very mountainous province in Southwest China, which borders Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam with an average altitude of 1980m. Our breath taking location, YongPing, is a county belonging to Dali City, located in Southern Yunnan Province amongst the Himalayan foot hills. YongPing is a small, friendly and quiet town with a population of around 170,000. Located roughly in the middle between the two Cities Dali and BaoShan, which are both no more than an hour's drive away and both conveniently have airports. We are also in driving distance to Lijiang and the Burmese border both approx 3hrs drive at a safe speed. YongPing and surrounding areas has heaps of famous Temples, mountains, and lakes to visit as well as natural relaxing hot springs which have been known to heal certain illnesses. RDS it's self is positioned just 15 minutes away from the town inside a million square meter private park filled with beautiful multi coloured plants, amazing wild-life, statues, forests, lakes, wild bamboo, and of course The RDS Temple and accommodation.

 

Although we are at an altitude of 1700m there are many neighbouring mountains that tower us with altitudes reaching 4000m, which make for challenging hikes during your free time. Considering our remoteness we are quite easy to get to with airports in BaoShan, Dali City, and Lijiang, which is an International airport. The capital, Kunming City, only a 40-minute flight from Dali or Baoshan also has an International airport making travel very convenient. There are many Kung Fu schools in China but very few can match the carefully selected peaceful grounds of RDS. Unlike most parts of China for example Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, and Henan Province to name a few, here in YongPing we have zero pollution with the most cleanest and freshest of air surrounding us.
