Tips For Creating An Excellent Wiki Page

This section looks at how to create an excellent wiki page. These tips will help you so readers can get the most from your work and search engines can find your work. For more information, please visit the main How to Post page.

Tips for Great Wiki Pages

  • If you need any assistance with a page or think you have messed something up, please contact us as we would be glad to help you.
  • When adding instructions, please try to make everything as SIMPLE as possible, Remember you are trying to help beginners learn about a technique or style.
  • Please check the spelling of the main topics in your text, title, URL, etc. Hard for people to find or read your work if your martial arts terminology is incorrect or misidentified. Check online to see if you are using the accepted spelling for a technique (versus adding some phonetic spelling).
  • Double check your work so the wiki editors do not have to make a ton of revisions and corrections. This makes us happier :)… and prevents any revision "tension" between you and the editors.
  • When creating a new page, the title (the link that becomes the URL) should be based on the name of the martial art style and the name of the technique being discussed on that page. For example, you should use a title like Muay Thai Flying Knee where Muay Thai is the "Style" and Flying Knee is the "Technique". This will allow search engines to better categorize the page as they will know exactly what is being discussed on the page.
  • Add a helpful title (so outside readers can find and understand what the page is about). A title of "How To Do A Muay Thai Flying Knee" or "Instructions for the Muay Thai's Flying Knee Technique"is better than just "Flying Knee". This will make it easier for martial arts students to find the correct page and help avoid any confusion with other martial arts who use similar names and/or techniques.
  • Please follow the format of existing wiki pages as we want everything to look similar.
  • Add a short introductory sentence with the subject at the beginning of the sentence (i.e. Karate is a Japanese martial arts…).
  • Add at least 1 or 2 videos to illustrate your topic or technique. Try to use high quality YouTube instructional videos (they usually have many "likes" on YouTube). For more information please visit the section on How To Add A Video To .
  • Add the bulk of your topic below the video (i.e. written instruction on how to perform a technique or details about a particular martial arts style). Please do not copy Wikipedia. Use your own unique knowledge to expand on the topic.
  • Add references sources for external information (in the reference section at the bottom of every page). If you have a martial arts website and are using material from your website, please feel free to link to your website in the reference section.
