Instructions for the Standing Big Toe Pose - Yoga for Martial Arts Flexibility & Balance

This page provides details for the Standing Big Toe Pose (or Standing Hand to To Big Toe Pose). This Yoga exercise is used by martial arts students in order to work on their balance. It is also a great exercise to stretch your hamstrings & groin and work on your leg strength. If you have trouble with your balance, you can try a very similar exercise called the Lying Down Hamstring Stretch where you lie on the ground and raise your leg. In Yoga, this exercise is called the Reclining Big Toe Pose.

All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. For additional martial arts stretches targeting other areas of the body, please visit the main Martial Arts Stretches or Yoga for Martial Arts sections.
