How To Use Focus Mitts or Punching Mitts - Martial Arts Training Tool This page provides details on how to use focus mitts (or punching mitts). Focus mitts are used to train martial artists. This padded training tool is used primarily as a moving target for martial artist's punches. For moving target drills involving kicks, many martial artists like to use a kicking paddle. Focus mitts are also used to help martial artists practice how to avoid being hit by a punch. Instructors can swing the focus mitt at the student's head, body and arms in order to force the student to block, duck and/or weave. Moreover, students can practice without fear of being hurt given the padded nature of the focus mitt. For more equipment "how to" instructions and drills, please visit the main Martial Arts Training Equipment section. You should also visit our Focus Mitt Drills page.
