Instructions for the Taekwondo Sparring Clinch

This page provides details for the Taekwondo sparring clinch. Unlike a Muay Thai clinch where you grab an opponent so they can not evade your blows, a Taekwondo sparring clinch is only a blocking technique in order to stop in-close kicks. With a Taekwondo sparring clinch, you can not bring your hands together and hold your opponent.

For other sparring techniques, please visit the main Taekwondo sparring section.

Instructions

  • You need to get close to your opponent.
  • Both of your arms go around the waist of your opponent. However, you do not grab your opponent because you will get a penalty.
  • Rather, you will be doing a mid-level double arm block in order to prevent your opponent from throwing a kick.
