Learn Suparinpei - Kata for Goju-Ryu Karate

This page will help you to learn Suparinpei, one of the katas used in Goju-Ryu Karate. This kata is also known as Suparenpai, Suparunpei and Suparenpei. Suparinpei translates as "One Hundred & Eight Hands".

Written Kata Instructions

  • Bow from musubi dachi
  • Right sanchin, double middle block, left gyaku tsuki, left middle block
  • Left sanchin, double middle block, right gyaku tsuki, right middle block
  • Right sanchin, double middle block, left gyaku tsuki, left middle block
  • Pull open hands in to chest, bend knees halfway down
  • Straighten legs, push open hands out to sides at shoulder height
  • Left sanchin, left kagi into mawashi uke w/ right hand up
  • Right sanchin, right kagi into mawashi uke w/ left hand up
  • Left finger thrust to throat, pull open hands to hip
  • Quick right foot step around front, left sanchin facing rear, mawashi uke
  • Right sanchin, mawashi uke
  • Quick chamber and shift to left, mawashi uke w/ right hand up
  • Right step, right kagi into mawashi uke w/ left hand up
  • Right kagi, turn hand down to grab, pull right hand to hip
  • Quick right foot step around front 180 degrees, left sanchin, mawashi uke
  • Right step, right kagi into mawashi uke w/ left hand up
  • Right kagi, turn hand down to grab, pull right hand to hip
  • Right kagi into mawashi uke w/ left hand up, sink into right cat stance
  • Shuffle forward, turn left 180 degrees
  • Left kagi into mawashi uke w/ right hand up, sink into left cat stance
  • Shuffle forward, turn right 90 degrees
  • Right cat stance w/ left mawashi uke
  • Quick turn left 180 degrees, left sanchin, double punch
  • Right sanchin, left hand chamber, right hand cross body, left strike over
  • Quick turn left 180 degrees, left sanchin, double punch
  • Right sanchin, left hand chamber, right hand cross body, left strike over
  • Quick turn left 90 degrees, left sanchin, double punch
  • Right sanchin, left hand chamber, right hand cross body, left strike over
  • Quick turn left 180 degrees, left sanchin, double punch
  • Right sanchin, left hand chamber, right hand cross body, left strike over
  • Shift to left diagonal stance to left rear 45, left middle block
  • Right step to diagonal stance (stay on 45), double low block
  • Turn upper body towards left leg, left middle block
  • Right step to diagonal stance (stay on 45), double low block
  • Right step back, left diagonal to right rear 45, left middle block
  • Right step to diagonal stance (stay on 45), double low block
  • Turn upper body towards left leg, left middle block
  • Right step to diagonal stance (stay on 45), double low block
  • Left C-step to front, left circular palm block
  • Right C-step, left kagi uke
  • Left C-step, right throat grab
  • Right front kick, set down in front to horse stance (right leg towards front)
  • Reinforced left middle block, right cross body palm block
  • Right step to left sanchin facing rear, knees bent halfway
  • Straighten legs w/ simultaneous middle and low block w/ left above
  • Right sanchin, simultaneous middle and low block w/ right above
  • Left sanchin, left kagi uke, throat grab and pull down
  • Right sanchin, right kagi uke, throat grab and pull down
  • Left sanchin, left kagi uke, throat grab and pull down
  • Right sanchin, right kagi uke, throat grab and pull down
  • Quick turn left 180 degrees, left zenkutsu facing front, left palm up
  • Right crescent kick in to left palm, 360 degree spin, left sanchin, left kagi uke
  • Right front flying kick, right horse stance, right elbow into palm, right backfist
  • Quick turn to rear in parallel stance, left palm strike
  • Lunge forward to left diagonal stance, left middle block
  • Small shuffle forward, right elbow into palm
  • Left step around front, right diagonal stance to front
  • Right palm swipe down, wrist swipe up, open hands swipe outward
  • Left hand over right, palms face up, slide right foot back to musubi dachi, palms press down
