Instructions for the Standing Triceps Stretch (or Overhead Triceps Stretch)

This page provides details for the Standing Triceps Stretch (or Overhead Triceps Stretch). This stretch is used by martial arts students in order to loosen their triceps muscles (located in the back of your arms). Triceps muscles are used in punching techniques (i.e. straight punch) and grappling techniques (in order to push an opponent away or turn them). Triceps stretches are used to warm up the triceps before martial arts training and any triceps exercises. For a deeper stretch, some martial artists use the Towel Triceps Stretch.

All stretches should be supervised by a trained instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. For additional martial arts stretches targeting other areas of the body, please visit the main Martial Arts Stretches page.
