Instructions for the Squat Pose - Yoga for Martial Arts Flexibility This page provides details for the Squat Pose. This Yoga pose is used by martial arts students in order to stretch their groin, hips, etc. This stretch will help to improve your overall kicking flexibility (i.e. higher roundhouse kicks) and potentially reduce over-extension injuries (i.e. pulled muscles). Given the deep knee bend in this exercise, this exercise is not recommended for students with knee problems. An alternative pose that puts less pressure on the knees is the Butterfly Stretch or Pose. All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. For additional martial arts stretches targeting other areas of the body, please visit the main Martial Arts Stretches or Yoga for Martial Arts sections.
