Side Lunges - Strength Training Exercise

This page provides details for a warm-up and strength training exercise known as Side Lunges. This strength training exercise is used by martial arts students in order to warm up and strengthen their leg muscles (i.e. quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, calf muscles, etc.). A side lunge can be done with or without weights (i.e. dumbbells).

This exercises should not be confused with the stretch known as a standing hip adductor stretch (or side lunge stretch).

All warm-up exercises should be supervised by a trained instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. For additional stretches and exercises, please visit the main Martial Arts Physical Fitness section.
