Instructions for the Rest Stance (Xie Bu) - Kung Fu & Wushu Stance

The Xie Bu stance can be translated as the "resting stance". The chinese name is 歇步 and the pinyin is xiē bù.

This is one of the five main stances (or steps) found in most of the chinese kung fu styles.

The key points of the Xie Bu stance are:

  1. The front foot must be flat on the ground and pointing outwards
  2. The knees must be crossed
  3. The back heel must be raised
  4. Do not sit on the back heel. This is called rest stance because it looks like you're sitting but you shouldn't actually rest
