Instructions for the Low Lunge Pose - Yoga for Martial Arts Flexibility

This page provides details for the Low Lunge Pose. This Yoga pose is used by martial arts students in order to stretch their groin, quads, hamstrings and glutes. This Yoga pose differs from the traditional lunge stretch because one knee is touching the ground. This exercise is not recommended for students with knee problems. Instructors suggest using a towel or pad under your knee if you have any knee pain. Alternatively, instructors suggest utilizing only a high lunge pose where your knees do not hit the ground.

All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized.

For additional martial arts stretches targeting other areas of the body, please visit the main Martial Arts Stretches or Yoga for Martial Arts sections.
