Instructions for the Lotus Pose - Yoga for Martial Arts Flexibility

This page provides details for the Lotus Pose. This classic Yoga stretch is used by martial arts students in order to stretch and loosen their hips, groins, etc. However, be aware that this stretch is not good for individuals with knee problems because it can put excess pressure on the knee. See the second video for tips on how to reduce potential knee injuries associated with this Yoga pose.

All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized.

For additional martial arts stretches targeting other areas of the body, please visit the main Martial Arts Stretches or Yoga for Martial Arts sections.
