Learn about the International Chang-Hon Taekwon-do Federation

The ICTF (International Chang-Hon Taekwondo Federation) was created after several of its members separated from the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) due to internal conflicts within the organization. It is currently lead today primarily by Master Joe Cariati (8th Dan) and Master Craig Stanley (8th Dan) of Canada. Master Cariati leads one of the largest Taekwondo groups in Eastern Canada and Master Stanley leads one of the largest Taekwondo groups in Western Canada respectively.

The organization was originally created by a small group of instructors who wanted to remain loyal to late General Choi Hong Hi the original founder of Taekwondo. General Choi was the first president of the ITF and would remain in this position until his passing in 2002. Upon his death the ITF split into several factions over a dispute regarding who the organization's next president and successor would be.

Master Cariati at one time was considered one of General Choi's most loyal and closest students. He traveled the world with the General spreading the teachings of Taekwondo internationally through various demonstrations and seminars. Due to Master Cariati's relationship with the General the ICTF can be considered one of the closest links to the origin of Taekwondo.

Master Stanley also trained with General Choi at various Canadian seminars and he received his 3rd, 4th, and 5th Dan black belt through the General himself. His abilities were always highly applauded by the General along with many of the students he trained. Master Stanley was largely responsible for creating the legacy DVD series documenting the patterns and techniques of the ICTF based on the General's direct input.

The ICTF continues to grow and expand today with many high ranking representatives around the world. Although the ICTF has the same patterns and largely similar techniques to the ITF, it has emerged as its own separate independent organization.
