Gongkwon Yusul - Korean Hybrid Martial Arts

Gongkwon Yusul is a hybrid Korean martial arts that includes elements from Hapkido, Jujutsu, Judo and Boxing. This martial arts was founded in Korea in 1996 by Kang Jun. Gongkwon Yusul has grown rapidly and spread throughout Korea. It is starting to expand overseas and a limited number of schools can be found in Australia, Europe, Canada, USA, etc.

According to the US GKYS HQ, Gongkwon Yusul is "a system which emphasizes the application of striking, locking and throwing techniques in practical, free-flowing fighting situations, rather than the static applications, more in common in traditional styles of Hapkido. It also varies from Hapkido in that many of its hand techniques are strongly influenced by Western boxing and that a significant part of Gongkwon Yusul training is in groundwork applying techniques more akin to Judo or Brazilian Jujitsu, than most Hapkido styles".

Interesting Fact - Willie Nelson (the US country music star) has a high level black belt in Gongkwon Yusul.
