Eskrima Joint Locks In Eskrima, joint locks are often used in order to trap or disarm an opponent in self-defense situations. This Filipino martial arts is well-known for its weapon-based joint locks. Eskrima joint locks are either done empty hand (without a weapon) or in conjunction with a Yantok (Eskrima or Kali fighting stick). These locking techniques (with or without a stick) apply pressure to a joint and push it in an "unnatural" direction (i.e. locking an arm and forcing an elbow backward). Common Eskrima joint lock targets include the elbow and wrist. For information on other joint locks (i.e. Judo joint locks), please visit the main Joint Locks section.
