Eku (or Boat Oar) - Japanese Martial Arts Weapon

The Eku is an Okinawan (Japan) martial arts weapon that originated from a boat oar. The Eku is also known as Eiku or Iyeku. This weapon is used by senior-level practitioners of Okinawan Kobudo and some Karate styles.

The Eku is not as well-known as other Kobudo weapons such as Bo, Nunchaku and Sai. The bladed or oar like end of the Eku is primarily used to block and strike but the staff end is also used to block and strike as many Bo techniques are applicable to the Eku.
