Doorway Shoulder Stretch

This page provides details for the Doorway Shoulder Stretch. This shoulder stretch is used by martial arts students in order to stretch their shoulder muscles (deltoids) before grappling techniques, punching, etc. This stretch also works on a person's chest muscles (pectoral muscles or pecs). This stretch uses an open doorway in order to help bring a person's arms back behind their body. This stretch can be done with both arms simultaneously or one arm at a time (if the doorway is too wide).

All stretches and exercises should be supervised by a trained instructor in order to prevent injuries and to ensure the proper technique is utilized. For additional shoulder stretches (i.e. arm circles or the posterior shoulder stretch), please visit the page on Shoulder Stretches. For information on other stretches (i.e. hamstring or triceps stretches), please visit the main Martial Arts Stretching section.
