Daido Juku Kudo - A Japanese Mixed Martial Arts Style

Daido Juku Kudo is a Japanese martial arts that utilizes mixed martial arts techniques while wearing a traditional gi (uniform). This hybrid martial arts incorporates techniques from Karate, Muay Thai, Jujutsu, Judo and many other martial arts. Daido Juku Kudo is known for its full contact sparring matches and unique protective headgear.

Daido Juku Kudo was created in 1981 by Takashi Azuma. Kudo International Federation Daido Juku has over 100 domestic branches in Japan and international branches in more than 60 countries all over the world.

According to Kudo Daido Juku United Kingdom, "Victory or defeat is decided by any direct attack" using punches, kicks, elbows, head-butts and throws. A "face protector (Neo headgear KU) must be worn and techniques are to be executed with bare hands and feet. Also ground techniques such as strangle and joint techniques are allowed".

Kudo matches tend to involve more stand-up fighting and less grappling than a UFC-like mixed martial arts match. This is due to the rule that ground techniques are allowed only twice every 3 minutes for a maximum of 30 seconds each time.
