Learn about Cuong Nhu - Vietnamese-American Martial Arts Style

Cuong Nhu is a Vietnamese-American hybrid martial arts that combines elements from Shotokan Karate, Aikido, Judo, Wing Chun, Vovinam, Tai Chi and Boxing. The name Cuong Nhu is Vietnamese for Hard (Cuong)-Soft (Nhu) given that it is a combination of hard and soft martial arts styles.

This martial arts was founded in 1965 by Grandmaster Ngo Dong and brought to the United States in 1971. Cuong Nhu is a worldwide organization but most of its schools are located in the United States.

This martial arts focuses on katas, strikes, kicks, grappling and weapons training. A number of Cuong Nhu's katas (i.e. Taikyoku) come from Shotokan Karate. However, at more senior levels, students learn katas and forms derived from other martial arts styles.
