Krabi – Muay Thai Camps in Thailand http://muaythaicampsthailand.com Detailed List and Reviews of the Muay Thai Camps in Thailand Mon, 21 Dec 2015 09:04:58 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.4.2 Lanta Muay Thai http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/lanta-muay-thai/ Sat, 25 May 2013 04:37:40 +0000 http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/?p=994

The Lanta Muay Thai gym is owned by a former fighter named Dejpayak (William). During the prime years of his fight career, William was training and fighting out of the Sasiprapa Gym in Bangkok.

In the year 2000, William accomplished what most fighters aspire to achieve. He won a championship title at Lumpinee stadium in route to racking up an impressive career record of 170 wins and only 30 losses. William is oftentimes on-site at the gym offering advice and catering to the students who come to train.

Location

Lanta Gym, as the name indicates, is located on the island of Koh Lanta – which is approximately 70km from the mainland (Krabi province). For detailed information on how to get to Koh Lanta from various regions in Thailand, click here. For the specific contact information, address and map, click here.

Accommodation

There are quite a few accommodation options if you wanted to train at Lanta Gym. The prices for accommodation are dependent on a few factors. The room type, whether or not you want a room with air conditioning, the time of year you book (there are discounts on place for “low season” bookings) and if you’re booking the room as part of an inclusive training package (including food) all influence the overall price.

For information on the room types, you can click here.
For information on the prices, you can click here, make your selection and hit the “booking now” button.

William (the gym owner), is also building the “Lanta Sports Complex” (website here), which will essentially be more apartments and condominiums near the gym.

Training Info & Photos

The training times are organized differently at Lanta Gym than they are at most other gyms throughout Thailand. According to the training schedule in the website, there appears to be more segregation between skill levels here than at most places.

Beginners can opt to train during a different time frame than the rest of the students (from 10am-11:30am) and during that time, technique is emphasized more than sparring and clinching is.

There are two training sessions per day if you’re more advanced or in fight training and the workouts consist of what you’d expect; jogging, a warm up (particularly important should you choose not to run) consisting of skipping, tire jumping or/and shadow boxing, pad work with the trainer (3-5 rounds) then bag work and some conditioning exercises to finish off the session.

As mentioned above, if you’re participating in the “advanced training sessions”, sparring and clinching will be included into the training structure as well. Click here to view a breakdown of the training sessions and also, to view the training schedule (left hand side).

Emerald Gym http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/emerald-gym/ Tue, 09 Apr 2013 20:28:26 +0000 http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/?p=878

The Emerald gym is owned and operated by a French fighter named Wilfred Montagne and his wife. Wilfred has competed against some of the best fighters in the world including Samkor Kiatmontep, Naruepol Fairtex and many others.

Emerald gym consistently brings top quality trainers down from Bangkok. The line up is always changing, but past trainers have included 3x Raja stadium champion Rajasak Sor Vorapin and “Pipa” from Jockey gym; who served as a trainer to Saenchai, Lerdsila and Kaoklai back when Jockey Gym was in its prime.

The trainer line up seems to change quite frequently, so be sure to do some research before you go but given Emerald’s track record, I would assume they would have a solid team of trainers to work with.

Location

Emerald gym is located in the Ao Nang area of Krabi. Krabi is situated approximately 180km from Phuket and 800km from Bangkok. You can access Krabi via direct flights or by taking a bus. Coming from Phuket, a bus ride to Krabi will take a few hours and from Bangkok, the journey will take you roughly 13 hours. Detailed information on getting to Krabi is available here.

Accommodation

There are a couple shared rooms available on site as well as a private room. Here are the prices for the on-site rooms. Alternatively, you can find a place to stay nearby.

Training Info and Photos

The training at Emerald is run in a standard format. There are two training sessions per day. The morning session starts at 8am (you can start a bit earlier if you want to do a run). The session starts with skipping, followed by a few rounds of shadow boxing. After that, it’s 3-5 rounds on the bags and 3-5 rounds on the pads. To finish off the session, you’ll do a series of sit ups and kicks/knees on the bags.

The afternoon session starts at 4pm (optional run before that) and the structure is similar to the morning session. There is oftentimes some clinching and sparring in the afternoon session as well.

The cost for training (at the time of this writing) is 300 baht per session, 500 baht per day (2 sessions) and 9000 baht per month.
