The Yodyut Muay Thai gym is named after a trainer/fighter named Yodyut (Son) and at the time of this writing, it’s one of the newest gyms in Koh Samui.

Son is a South Thailand champion who had previously spent time working at Kiatphontip gym in Bangkok and Sinbi gym in Phuket before opening up a gym of his own.

The training staff at Yodyut all seem to be very experienced, and some quite accomplished. There are multiple trainers here who have captured titles from Lumpinee stadium, including Nongbee, who has two of them as well as a WMC title at 126lbs. Nongbee was brought up in the Yongyut/Top Rated gym in Bangkok and before the move down to Samui, he was working at P. Silaphai gym in Chiang Mai.

Location

The gym is located in Choengmon Beach, Koh Samui. The address of the camp is 76/77 Moo 5, Bo Phut, Koh Samui and you can contact them by phone at 077952621 or 0907974940, or via email: yodyutmuaythai@gmail.com

Accommodation

The gym is located in an area that caters to tourists so there are plenty of accommodation options around the gym. They also have rooms available at the gym as well. The cost for both training and accommodation can be viewed here.

Training Info and Photos

The training at Yodyut Muay Thai follows a traditional 2x per day format consisting of running/skipping, shadow boxing, padwork with one of the trainers, bag work, technique drills, sparring/clinching and then some conditioning exercises to finish off the session.

Lamai Muay Thai http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/lamai-muay-thai/ Fri, 11 Jan 2013 17:33:29 +0000 http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/?p=698
The Lamai Muay Thai camp is sanctioned by the World Muay Thai Counsel and is often referred too as the “WMC Camp”. The gym itself is well equipped and has an on-site cafe, fitness room and pro shop. Due to the WMC connection, there’s oftentimes quite a few top ranked foreign fighters training here.

Location

As indicated by the name, the gym is located near Lamai beach in Koh Samui. Here’s a map you can use to find the gym.

Accommodation

Lamai Muay Thai has 3 different accommodation types available on-site for the students. They have “deluxe”, “superior” and “standard” bungalows. Of course, for people staying long term, you could always tour around the area and find an apartment on your own to try to save some money.

Training Info & Photos

They offer a few different training routines at Lamai Muay Thai (weight loss programs etc.) but our main focus is obviously on the fight training. A typical training session consists of a run on the beach (8km) then it’s back to the gym to shadow box and do some clinching, sparring, pad work (5 rounds), bag work (5 rounds), hill sprints and then some sit ups and cool down exercises (stretches etc.)

Jun Muay Thai http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/jun-muay-thai/ Wed, 09 Jan 2013 19:05:26 +0000 http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/?p=653
Jun Muay Thai is owned and operated by a Thai fighter named Koson Matuwet (otherwise known as “Jun”, hence the name of the gym). According to their website, Jun was a top fighter at the major stadiums in Bangkok. At 5000 baht per month for 2x per day training, Jun Muay Thai is one of the least expensive tourist-oriented Muay Thai camps in Thailand.

Location

Jun Muay Thai is located in the island of Koh Samui, which is about a 1 hour flight from Bangkok. Here is a map you can use to find the gym.

Accommodation

There are quite a few accommodation options listed on this page of their website. They have a rate of 5500 baht per month listed on there for a studio room, which is very reasonable. They also list a few of the upscale accommodation options on there as well.

Training Info & Photos

The morning session runs from 7:30am – 9:30am and the afternoon session runs from 4:30pm-6:30pm. The sessions are quite similar in terms of how they’re structured. The sessions start with a 30 minute run, followed by about 10 minutes of skipping, some shadow boxing, about 4 rounds on the bag, pad work with the trainers (3 rounds if you’re not fighting and 5 rounds if you are). After pad work, there’s 30 minutes of clinching and then some conditioning exercises to finish off the sessions.

Superpro Samui http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/superpro-samui/ Mon, 24 Dec 2012 19:12:36 +0000 http://muaythaicampsthailand.com/?p=462
Superpro Samui seems to be the “go to” gym for the big name K1 fighters out of Holland. The owner is European and there’s trainers (Charoon for example) that frequently travel there to train fighters. The facility itself is quite developed as it is and it’s currently undergoing another expansion which will add more training space and additional rooms.

Location

As the name indicates, “Superpro Samui” is located on the popular island of Koh Samui. The gym is on a residential street around Chaweng beach. Here is a map you can use to find it. To get to the main nightlife area, it’ll take you about 5-10 minutes on a motorbike (200 baht via a taxi) so it’s not too far at all.

Accommodation

They have plenty of on-site accommodation available at Superpro (and they’re in the process of building more). Guests who stay on site pay an all-inclusive rate for the room and training. The rooms can be pricy for long term stays but if money isn’t much of an issue, the rooms are of high quality and I’m sure you’ll appreciate staying right at the gym. They also have a fan room available for 10,000 baht per month and that rate includes training.

Alternatively, you can look around for an apartment nearby and when staying outside the gym, you will just have to pay 7500 baht per month for the training – which is a pretty reasonable rate.

Training Info & Photos

Superpro Samui runs 2 Muay Thai sessions per day (6x per week) and they run an MMA class 5 nights a week as well. The morning session runs from 8am-10am and the afternoon session runs from 5pm-7pm. As mentioned above, they have an MMA class that runs from Monday-Friday from 5:30pm-6:30pm.

The structure of the Muay Thai session is pretty standard and includes bag work, pad work, sparring, clinching etc. They have some pretty accomplished trainers working here too as according to their website, they have trainers who have earned some prestigious titles (Thailand, Lumpinee, WMC etc.).
